Couldn’t have said it better myself
finding jobs in Van, miscellaneous, politicaA short while back I created a blog called Meancouver.com for a client. It was mainly in response to the emerging difficulties of life in Vancouver. This recent post hit the nail on the head in so many ways and I am so envious that I didnt write it myself. Despite it’s rep I have found Vancouver to be a very difficult city to live in. It wasnt always this way but it seems like in the last 5 years Vancouver has been more Rudecouver as it sheds its friendly image for a more navelgazing one. Too bad because it was a very cool city before it became fascinated with itself.
This has always been an interesting argument for me because for me what makes the city isnt the landscape or the “lifestyle” but the people. Ive lived in a lot of different big cities and Ive found it quite strange that the cities with the reputation for being rude have been a lot friendlier than Vancouver. Maybe we just need a wake up call.
Kudos also to the author of the post (whom I will find out the identity in a bit) and also for pointing out that the only presenter on CTV’s local news to point out that Vancouver’s drop from #1 place to live in Canada to #10 might be a result of social problems not being noticed. Hell ask any Australian backpacker new to Vancouver what the first thing they notice and its the social problems. Maybe we’ll be able to look beyond our navels and into our hearts and start working on a bit of social equity for a change.
